Copyright and Licensing

Journal of Contemporary Decision Science supports the dissemination of research and aims to maximize the visibility and impact of published work. Authors retain the copyright to their work, and articles published in the Journal of Contemporary Decision Science are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.

Under the CC BY 4.0 License, users may:

  • copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format for any purpose, including commercial purposes;
  • remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial purposes.

These permissions are granted provided that users give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and source, provide a link to the CC BY 4.0 License, and indicate whether changes were made. Users must not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from exercising the rights permitted by the license.

Reproducing Published Material from Other Publishers

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights or permissions to reproduce material from other sources, including figures, photographs, tables, illustrations, schemes, or substantial extracts of text. Where material is protected by copyright and the intended use is not otherwise permitted by law or by an applicable license, permission should be obtained from the copyright holder before submission.

Permission may be required for:

  • works previously published by the authors for which they do not hold the necessary reuse rights;
  • substantial extracts from copyrighted works;
  • tables, graphs, charts, schemes, figures, illustrations, and other material reproduced or adapted from copyrighted sources where reuse is not covered by an applicable license or other legal exception;
  • photographs and other images for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights.

Permission may not be required when:

  • the material is in the public domain;
  • the material is distributed under a license that permits the intended reuse, provided that all applicable license conditions are followed;
  • the authors use their own original data to create a new table, graph, chart, or figure, while appropriately citing the source of previously published data where applicable;
  • the intended use is permitted under an applicable copyright exception or limitation.

Obtaining Permission

To avoid unnecessary delays in the publication process, authors should identify third-party copyrighted material and obtain any necessary permissions as early as possible. If there is uncertainty regarding copyright ownership or reuse rights, authors should consult the copyright holder or other appropriate source before submission. Journal of Contemporary Decision Science cannot publish third-party material when the necessary rights or permissions have not been secured.

Where permission is required, authors must comply with any acknowledgement or attribution requirements specified by the copyright holder. Where no specific wording is prescribed, an appropriate acknowledgement should clearly identify the original author(s), source, publisher, and other relevant publication information.
